Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Members Mark “AKA Day At The Capitol”

Members of the nation’s first black sorority recently went to their local state capitols for a worthy cause. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. recently united for A.C.T.I.O.N. to Advocate, Communicate, Train, Influence, Organize, and Network across the country to uphold the values and quality of life endowed to individuals, families, and communities.

In Atlanta, over 200 local chapter members stormed the Georgia State Capitol during Black History Month where they met with newly-elected Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

The sorority members took action under the leadership of South Atlantic Regional Director, Mrs. Sharon Brown Harriott, Representatives Karen Bennett, Carolyn Hughley, Dar’shun Kendrick, Senator Horacena Tate and Senator Nikema Williams.

Over 200 members gathered under the Georgia State Capitol’s Gold Dome to beckon the attention of elected officials to issues that are important to constituents.

Also in attendance was legendary former news anchor Monica Pearson, a member of the sorority, and members of Rho Zeta Omega Chapter, the most represented chapter in attendance.

AKA Day At The Capitol is especially important considering the current political climate which has caused imminent risks to affordable healthcare, immigration, and equitable and quality education.

Kudos to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for their dedication to organizing and participating in the political process.
