Jordan Peele’s “Us” Shatters Weekend Box Office
Jordan Peele’s deliciously creepy psychological thriller “Us” shattered the whole entire box office with a $70 million opening weekend (YES, SEV-EN-TEE) that exceeded industry expectations, silenced the doubters and proved “Get Out” wasn’t a fluke. But wait, there’s more: It’s now the highest grossing original Horror movie of all-time (after its first week) with the third biggest opening for a Horror film EVER.
Whew, Black Horror excellence with an Oscar-worthy performance from Lupita Nyong’o, countless meme-able moments and mind-blowing theories that have Twitter in a dot-connecting TIZZY.
Biggest opening *ever* for an original horror movie.
Biggest opening *ever* for an original R-rated movie.
Biggest opening for an original live action movie since “Avatar.”
Third largest opening *ever* for a horror film. https://t.co/8JVLnpa9xi via @sonaiyak #UsMovie pic.twitter.com/YDATHsAwDT— jen yamato (@jenyamato) March 24, 2019
Watching "Us" with a bunch of black people was such an experience. Lupita yelled at her husband "You're not making the decisions anymore!" And some black girl screamed "PERIOD!" And the whole theater busted out laughing 😂

No matter how you feel about #UsMovie the one thing I hope we all can agree on, after you all see it opening weekend, is that @Lupita_Nyongo deserves a best actress nomination. Two in fact. pic.twitter.com/BE2GM3JLAx

What a way to end opening weekend! I’ve felt the support all around (woweee New York Times this week!) and am grateful for this moment.
I’m having so much fun and looks like many of you had a scary good time at the theater this weekend too. ✂️🎟❤️ pic.twitter.com/483bz6VtG1

I just watched #UsMovie for a second time and wowsers!!! It’s a masterpiece. Genius on so many levels. It’s like a giant #EasterEgg hunt inside of a horror film.
It’s a totally different movie the second time around. pic.twitter.com/bqb0eByxh3
