Single Mom Attends NASA Internship Thanks To GoFundMe
When India Jackson discovered that she had been accepted into a prestigious summer internship at NASA, her only concern was how she’d be able to afford to move herself and her daughter from Georgia to Houston. Although the internship is a paid one, the single mom, who is currently a student at Georgia State University, is liable for her own travel, housing and other living expenses. Fortunately, her cousin came up with the idea to start a GoFundMe to help get India to her internship, with a goal of $8,000. Within one day, the crowdfund reached $8,510 for the doctorate student.
Jackson told WSBTV:
“It really caught me off guard. It was amazing and it was overwhelming, and I was just blown away. I’m just blessed enough to be living in a time where everything is technology-driven, and this GoFundMe account was able to reach people around the world in order to help my cause.”
India says after attaining her doctorate degree, her ultimate goal is to space travel. She also plans to finish her doctorate in 2022 and and get a job as a research professor at an Atlanta-area university. Congrats, sis!
