The world of the R&B girl group is virtually non-existent today, but back in the day, girl-group-mania was on and poppin.’
Although Destiny’s Child took the reigns in the late 90’s and never really let go, there’s always been much speculation on how the powerhouse foursome-turned-trio would hold their own if they had a little competition.
In honor of all the chit-chatter surrounding a recently confirmed Destiny’s Child comeback album and tour, here’s a list of once popular girl groups who we think would have a pretty good shot at the DC throne if they were to make a serious comeback.

These classy ladies set the bar pretty high for those who came after them.

Though tragedy, time and growth eventually led this group apart, we think they’d still have a pretty strong fanbase if they made it back onto the scene.
Salt-N-Pepa
One of very, very few hip-hop female acts to rule the charts for as long as they did and in rare form, a comeback from this trio would certainly add some variety to the music industry.
Total
Although their success was short-lived as is often the case over at Bad Boy, Total held their own with kick azz lyrics to match their rugged but sultry image.
Jade
These soul singin songstresses made their way back on the music scene a while back, but we feel like they might have a little more left in them.
Xscape
Almost all of the members of this former group have confirmed that a comeback is a no-go, but if it did happen, their fans would probably be on board.
TLC
Although this is one reunion that will sadly never happen, as the 2nd biggest selling female group of all time, we have no doubt that these ladies would have put Destiny’s Child to the ultimate test.
