**UPDATE: Breezy Could Get Up To Ten Years For “Criminal Threat”

So why, you ask, was Chris Brown booked for making criminal threats rather than domestic abuse, given the victim — we’re told Rihanna — had “visible injuries”?
Law enforcement sources tell us they typically book a suspect for the most serious crime they can be charged with — it’s then up to the D.A. to file any additional charges.
Given there were allegedly visible injuries, the crime of making criminal threats is punishable by up to nine years in prison. Domestic abuse is four years.

TMZ can confirm that Chris Brown just entered an LAPD station, where he turned himself in to police.
Chris is being investigated by the LAPD for an alleged domestic violence felony battery that occurred early this morning near Hancock Park in L.A. Police officials said earlier today they may arrest Brown when they found him. Well, now they know where he is.
According to the female victim — who cops refuse to identify — she and Chris got into an argument which turned violent. Cops say when they arrived to the scene, Brown had split, but the woman had “visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker.”
Brown and his girlfriend Rihanna were together earlier last night, attending Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party — and both canceled their scheduled performances at tonight’s event.
Brown is currently being interviewed by detectives.

OK, I’m not sure where the herpes angle is coming from but until it is proven, by a credible source, I’ll take it with a grain of salt. That’s still no excuse for a “man” to put his hands on a woman.
If this is true, then, as some other posters mentioned, Chris Brown’s career is pretty much kaput, IMHO. If I’m not mistaken, his fan base is predominantly female, and striking women is a career killer when you have a reputation as a romantic singer (Ask K-Ci).
Also, seeing the photos yesterday of Chris and Rihanna together at the Clive Davis party spoke volumes. He looked relaxed in every photo except the ones with Rihanna. Without knowing the personal details of their relationship, it always appeared to me that her feelings for him were probably stronger than the reverse.
Well, I guess the cute, good guy image for Chris is over. And if the allegations are true, I don’t have any sympathy for any man who inflicts violence upon a woman.

When I said earlier about Rihanna having herpes, I was putting Bossip on blast for it, because they could have said that then under that picture headline instead of acting shocked about it now. But, it retrospect I think it is fair to ask questions. One, how did the argument start? Does Bossip or MTO have copies of the police report that mentions the verbal altercation that escalated to violence? Does Bossip or MTO have medical records to prove that either Chris or Rihanna has herpes? I know this is a gossip website, but some rumors can be worth thousands, even millions of dollars in law suits. What I am saying is, be careful about the validity of this story before reporting it, or Chris and Rihanna could sue you….

ALL the players that were considered the best ever had a low post game (Jordan, Kareem, Magic, Bird, Russel, Chamberlain) That’s the next step.

Wow, I am speechless at this whole thing..my kids love Chris Brown and Rihanna. and I love them too and loved to see them together….sending out prayers to Chris and Rihanna and their family and support systems….
Lots of thoughts, well clearly they are both too young for such a serious relationship..where were the handlers and his mother and father, and what about her parents???? They should have seen where this was headed and prevented it from happening..these so called adults are just grown up kids..they had too much freedom..and money..and they should have been better protected by the real adults in their lives from themselves and their own ignorance and foolishness as young people.
When people are young and dumb but think they know something and don’t have the right guidance, protection and protection, is when they make decisions with consequences that tend to follow them the rest of their lives….
I think Chris has been scarred by his experience of growing up in an abusive home. He’s said it wasn’t his own dad but his mother’s boyfriend that used to beat her in front of Chris and Chris’ sister Tootie..that obviously had an impact.
Still, I believe Rihanna was pressuring him to be more committed to her than he was capable of at his age. Combined with the possible fact that Chris wasn’t being honest with Rihanna and didn’t know how to be honest with her about his real feelings (and activities messing with other girls, or guys for that matter, as is normal for his age group)..with the lack of open and honest communication combined with the immaturity of both of them and all the pressure involved…things have spiraled downward to this point that should have been avoided.
Chris has an incredible defense attorney in Mark Geragos and he does not have any prior criminal history that we know of, so he should get a light punishment. Also, he will probably have to fork out Rihanna some serious dough….
Still I hope both of them learn their lessons from this. Rihanna you need some therapy to work out your neediness issues, and I believe you were hitting him first, I’ve seen you swat at both Chris and Jay Z, what were you doing behind closed doors. This situation was clearly not going to turn in to a major commitment right now, both of you are too young and being rich and famous there is waaay too much temptation for Rihanna to expect marriage or sumn like that from Chris….
Chris you need help to learn to *****ert yourself and be yourself, and heal from the abuse you witnessed as a child that has lead you to become violent instead of walking away from provacation like a sensible person would do!!!! I don’t know what is wrong with females these days. I always females *****’ guys for not being faithful but when they get someone who tries they treat him like he’s soft or somethin’. First of all, to everyone who is talking about the sore on Rhianna’s lip, that is a cold sore/fever blister. 90% of the population has them, and most people get them before they are 10 years old. Yes, cold sores are oral herpes, but oral herpes is not an STD. They can be spread by kissing (which is how most people get them before they are 10). Yes, oral herpes can lead to genital herpes is you go down on someone while you have one, but for the most part they are harmless. The reason you all never saw one on her face before is because they’re not there all the time, only during a flare up, and as we get older, flare ups come less and less, and sometimes stop all together. Some people get one cold sore in their life and never get one again, but the virus is always there and occasionally contagious. Also, 30% of new cases of genital herpes are caused by oral sex, not regular sex. It’s like this because people, men especially, don’t care who they let give them head. I know I seem like a sex ed teacher, but it’s astounding how much people seem to NOT KNOW about herpes. Oh and FYI, you can’t have someone arrested for giving you herpes. It’s not lethal, 1 out of 4 women and 1 out of 5 men have it, and they estimate that up to 90% of people who have it don’t know that they have it! Most people who have herpes don’t even have outbreaks. Herpes is not included in your STD tests when you go in and ask for “everything”. If you don’t say “I want to be tested for herpes” 9 times out of 10, they won’t test you. Don’t believe me? Call your Dr and ask for a printout of your most recent test results. I GUARANTEE you herpes will not be on there.

What you described occurs among a number of abused women, which is why counseling is a vital part of helping women (and men) leave abusive relationships and open themselves up to healthier bonds. Your friend needed counseling badly — She was confusing abuse for love (which some women do). A man who loves you does not put his hands on you. He does not call you names. He does not give you a “backhand.” He does not choke you.
That’s not love. It’s abuse. And it’s extremely dangerous if it’s allowed to fester into a potentially life-threatening situation.

My friends’ really helped me out after that because I took the first step after they had been tellin me to leave. I cant explain to you my mindset cuz you wouldnt understand unless it has happened to you, but its easier said than done.

Actually, there is something wrong with both of them. Usually, men who abuse, and women who are abused, grow up in abusive households. We learn how relationship should be when we are children. So if you grow up in a household where your mama is getting her ***** whooped, more than likely, it will be ingrained in you that that is what a relationship is. No matter how much you see other people who have normal relationships, you don’t really understand it, because you’re doing what you learned from an early age is normal. So if, for 18 years, you grew up with that as your model of what “love” is, how can you get that out of your subconscious? Therapy and time is really the only way, and unfortunately, as Black people we have this complex about therapy and think that only crazy people go.
Another thing, I keep seeing people saying that a woman “chooses” to stay with an abuser. That shows me how little most of you know about domestic violence and abuse. A lot of you could benefit from taking an intro to psychology cl*****, or better yet, TALK to your friends who have been in abusive relationships. Mental abuse ALWAYS precludes physical abuse. The abuser breaks down the victim to the point where she (or he) feel that they are nothing without the abuser. Then after an episode of physical abuse, the abuser reverts back to the person they were before the abuse ever began. It’s confusing and sick, but that’s the way it is. That is why women go back to men after leaving for days, weeks or even months. The man turns back into the man he was when they first met. Yes, from the outside looking in, it seems stupid and obvious that he will abuse her again, but when you’re the person in the situation, you don’t see it that way. How many of us ever listen to someone who has something to say about our relationships?

Without going into detail, yeah, I went through a similar situation and it did unfold gradually (flashes of anger, jealousy, etc.).
Forgot to lock the top lock on our front door. I slapped the back of her head real good. Sometimes you gotta do whats necessary to protect the family. Sometimes that means you have to smack your own family members.

I did come across a list of programs and do*****entaries on PBS, as part of its yearly February line-up. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. has an interesting do*****entary on Lincoln and race that will be aired this week.
But, yeah, the attention doesn’t seem to be the same this year. I attribute a lot of that to the election, of course, but I still very much believe that the month has merit, and the learning of our history should be a 365-day event.

Mental abuse is insulting, humiliating, demeaning and any other non-physical abuse that breaks a person down. The way that abusers usually are able to succeed in mental abuse is the fact that is is gradual, and at the same time that they begin abusing, the also begin isolating the victim from their friends and family and restricting their access to the outside world. Abusers usually want to know where their victim is at all times, and use guilt as a method of control. If you want to go somewhere, they say that you don’t care enough about them to stay at home. Or they act jealous, which a lot of women think is cute, for some reason. They flip back and forth from the abusive role, to the nice guy who the victim met in the first place. Usually by the time the physical abuse begins, the victim has been out of touch with family and friends, or seldom communicates with them. And when the victim does reach out for help, she is met with the “you’re stupid” attitude, and the abuser uses this as justification that what he has been saying is true (“See? I told you they don’t care about you!” “No one is ever going to be there for you but me” etc). The victim feels like she needs the abuser and has no where else to turn, so she stays.

She was completely at fault. She would not leave him alone. She continued in his face, pointing her finger and yelling at him (not to mention calling his mom a *****). He couldn’t get away from her. He got into the truck with me and my husband, to get away from her. She jumped in his truck, followed us down the street (in the rainy weather) and tried to run us off the road, continuously. My 5 year old child was in the truck. We made it to his mother’s house and tried to get in the house, she followed us, jumped out the truck and starting chasing him again. My other brother in law had to call the cops. Now this is a clear case of a woman needing her @ss kicked for putting all of our lives in danger.
