trick daddy

We’ll be the first to say that perhaps we shouldn’t have gone at Trick Daddy so hard. He’s just disclosed that he has Lupus which has affected his skin:

As Trick Daddy prepares for the release of his upcoming autobiography, he has revealed that he is also dealing with a serious health issue. The Miami-bred rapper appeared on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show today (March 23) to promote his autobiography Magic City: Trials of a Native Son. During the interview, he made the shocking revelation that he suffers from Lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease, which makes the immune system attacks the body’s cells and tissue. Lupus affects all major organs in the human body, including the heart, kidneys and nervous system.

“I went to the doctor like 12 years ago. He took all kinds of tests, because I was trying to get rid of what we call dry skin, she did biopsies and blood tests and swab tests. She told me I have lupus. I am allergic highly to the sun, that’s my worst enemy. It’s like an AK-47 with a double clip on it. I could jeopardize kidney and liver failure from the treatment and the medication.” The disease, which affects African-American and Hispanics in disproportionate numbers, particularly women. The rapper also learned that a close female friend had the disease, when he noticed a visible change in her appearance. “A lot of people try to cover it up with regular make up. It makes your skin pigmented. You can go from dark to light and not light to dark. You have to cover it up and conceal it…my mama had 11 children from 10 different men. If she can live with that I know, I can live with this.” The disease has already taken the life of prominent Hip-Hop producer James “J. Dilla” Yancey, who died from complications of the disease on February 19, 2006, just three days after his 32nd birthday. In related news, Trick Daddy also announced he has landed his first major film role in a film that begins shooting next week.  “They got me playing in a movie with a lot of gangsters from The Wire and the big black films. I can me, I can be a G in it.”

That’s our bad and we apologize.  Ain’t no nan nucca like Trick Daddy, though.  Get well.

  • Realist

Honestly when it comes to reality, Trick is one of the realest. You don’t have to do bad things to be a successful rapper, but if you rap about it, at least let it be true. Trick really did time. I remember meeting him on the “SET” @ FAMU back in ’98 during Homecoming. He was just a real dude. Getting in trouble with us for throwing the football over the Taltran. Tally ho folks recognize ;)

Lupus is nothing to play with. My best friend’s mom died from it and I have another friend suffering from it now. It’s an ugly disease that slowly breaks your body down and does horrible things to your skin and your internal organs. I really hope he’s getting the medical attention he needs. You’re in my prayers.

  • Glok9n: The real glok !!!

All Trick Daddy has to do is seek natural medicine therapy, serious prayers, a positive attitude and stay active, build up his immune system, etc.

Much love!! I have Lupus nothing to play with. It really breaks you down and to top it off I have the skin and the systemic type. People do not understand this disease and he needs to get medical attention. Although you can not be cured there is medication that you can take to help you through the flareups.

  • TheGoodGood

I love Trick Daddy, for real whenever I see or hear from him I always feel that he’s a cool cat.

So sorry to hear this and I hope he takes care of himself!

The reason Bernie Mac and JDilla and BuGpun died is despite their money they didn’t take care of their conditions! That’s all.. just do what the doctors tell you and you’ll live a long life.. I hope he stays around a long time though he’s a really relaxed individual

  • cammi

Take care of yourself Trick Daddy.

My Godmama has Lupus and has had it for as long as I can remember. She has really bad days and then really great weeks. A friend at church also has it and is getting along well with some problems here and there. It’s all about faith and believing. Don’t let it stop you.

  • Curt

I have suffered from Lupus for 3 years now, but with the right doctors and medication I’m able to live a normal life. Its all about how you take care of yourself. Exercise and healthy eating habits. I haven’t had a flare in over a year!

  • jdthibou

Some stuff money just can’t fix…If he has been battling this for about 12 years, I’m sure he is well away of his outcome. My prayers go out to him and his family.

Trick, Let’s hope U get the best help in managing Ur illness

While Lupus is fairly simular to Vitaligo..its in no way the same. Lupus is systemic…that means his immune system is compromised. He is basically allergic to himself, as well as the ultraviolet rays (sun). I’ve been diagnosed with Lupus for 23 years…you don’t get well, you adapt and learn to live with it.

  • uhhhwait

Uhhh I have lupus and its not life threatening to where u can die. Effects my joints and skin only…not internal organs. Guess I’m lucky huh.
But I’ve never head of anybody dying from it

    Get well? Slap urselves.
How bout ill pray tht u stay healthy and aren’t compromised and further by ur disease. Damn.

my mom has lupus also and ive been trying to get the word out there to african americans. Trick Daddy hit me up. Lupus is a silent killer and my mother has been battling it for almost 16 years. It gets worst as the years progress and lot of that has to do with the meds they give u. so trick, stay up my G and put it all in God’s hands. But hit me up and lets get the word out there. • PhillyYoung&Grown-4-the-kids

trick loves the kids…so get well

  • 2dimplzs

    @Uhhh Wait:

You need to get more educated about the disease you have because YOU CAN and PEOPLE DO DIE from the disease or complications resulting from the disease. Not only that but it effects everyone differently. It is something that is very treatable and I know people who have lived with it for well over 20 years. My friends mom DIED from Lupus and it did attack her internal organs in the end. Like most diseases if you don’t get the proper care and if you don’t take care of yourself you can and will die from it.

  • Black Beauty

Get well soon, but dang, did you have to put your mom’s business in the street? SMDH

  • kadian

get well i’m also suffering from Lupus myself

  • I LUV RAY LEWIS

    @kahmmillion
you can get better from LUPUS. You have flare-ups which are brought on by stress(this is for systemic LUPUS) and your flare-ups can attack your organs and joints. Your neighbor is going through a bad flare-up. I’ve been living with LUPUS for 10 years. I’ve had two flare-ups the last one was the worst but I’m 80% better now and I plan on going back to work but this one has lasted for 6 years and my counts are a whole lot better. I pursued my degree after being sick for 3 years and I finished last year with my BS in Information Technology. So you do get better you just have to know your body, have a good doctor, exercise and eat right. I’ve been in remission once and I’ll be there again. Your neighbor needs to read up on her illness. STRESS can be a killer for Systemic LUPUS
Trick daddy has skin LUPUS(discoid) which sunlight can cause a lot of damage to his skin and can set off Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. I have both.

@uhhhwait you need to read up on your illness. http://www.lupus.org
