George Zimmerman, the ain’t ist child killer who was acquitted in the high-profile killing of teenager Trayvon Martin, is now working as a security officer in a guns and motorcycles store in Florida, according to a local police report.

George Zimmerman Hired To Guard Florida Gun Store

Via Mashable reports:

After midnight on Sunday night, a police officer in DeLand, Florida, found Zimmerman inside Pompano Pat’s, a firearms, ammunition and motorcycles store. Zimmerman told the officer that “he was watching the business due to a recent burglary” and that his friend, the store’s owner, Pat Johnson, had asked him to do that, according to the DeLand police report seen by Mashable.

Johnson told WKMG Local 6 that Zimmerman has been “patrolling” the store but that he’s not been hired. Pompano Pat’s offered Zimmerman a free gun after his acquittal.

The story was first reported by WFTV, a local ABC affiliate.

An employee at the store declined to comment, and referred questions to the owner. Mashable wasn’t able to reach the owner at the time of publication.

Sergeant Chris Estes, a spokesperson for the DeLand Police Department, however, told Mashable that it appeared that Zimmerman was working as a volunteer.

Last year, a jury cleared Zimmerman of all charges related to the killing of Martin, a 17-year-old African-American who he shot on the night of Feb. 26, 2012 while patrolling his neighborhood as a volunteer. Martin’s death caused an uproar and sparked a wide-ranging debate on racism. Zimmerman’s defense argued that Martin, who was unarmed at the time, assaulted Zimmerman and that Zimmerman shot him in self-defense. In Florida, the so-called “stand your ground” law gives people wide latitude when defending themselves.

Life comes at you fast, eh?
