Dirk Nowitzki and his wife Jessica have had a baby boy to join daughter Malaika in the house. Their second child was born Monday and has the name Max, according to a variety of German media reports.

Nowitzki missed practice Tuesday to spend some time with the family.

The beloved Dallas forward discussed fatherhood in October of 2013, three months after his daughter was born.

“I timed it really well,” Nowitzki said. “Since it was the summer, I did everything. I slept at the hospital the first four nights with her and then at home, did the whole spiel. I didn’t have to go anywhere. I’ve been a full-on home dad for the last two, 2 1/2 months.”

The timing of this baby is a little different. The Mavericks are chasing a postseason spot and sit 7th in the Western Conference standings with 11 games to go. Nowitzki is expected to play in tonight’s key clash, the first of two straight games against the rival San Antonio Spurs.
