Beauty Guru Jeffree Star Apologizes For Racist Statements

Not that you necessarily know who this is, but Jeffree Star is a pretty big name in the beauty world, especially when if comes to YouTube.

The lipstick line owner and beauty guru, and once singing artist under Akon’s convict music, has made waves for more than makeup in recent years, as videos have surfaced of him screaming racial slurs and foul insults at women of color, making racist jokes, and even beefing with a few Black beauty gurus — who he’s referred to as “poor” and “rats.”

The videos of him tossing around the N-Word have been circulating since YouTube became a thing, but the talk around the issue came to a head last year when his longtime friend and collaborator, Tattoo Artist and Makeup Mogul Kat Von D publicly tossed him aside over his racism and abusive bullying language and treatment of people.

Here’s some of the videos in question:

Well, now Jeffree is addressing the issue since it’s floating around more and more and affecting his brand, and he wants to plead his case. It gets a little lengthy, but the apology starts rolling out around the 4:30 mark.

All well and good…but none of his rationalization serves to explain how he’s “never been racist,” yet somehow immediately deferred to using racial slurs or racially-tinged insults whenever he felt a need to “clap back” at someone he felt attacked him.

What do you think?
