For the HBCU grads…

Anticipation Builds For Spelhouse Homecoming 2017

An HBCU Homecoming is a special time of reflection for alumni and current students alike. There are copious parties, bonding between Greeks, free-flowing drinks and food, and ultimately fellowship between people enamored by their life-changing experience at their respective historically black college.

Just a few weeks ago GHOE, or North Carolina A&T’s “Greatest Homecoming On Earth”, dominated social media with pictures and videos of Aggies reminiscing on old memories and making new ones.

Remember Briana Blount’s stiletto-heeled high kicks?

Now Morehouse College and Spelman College’s homecoming a.k.a. Spelhouse is on the horizon and non-alumni and alumni alike are buzzing over the annual celebration that will bring thousands to Atlanta’s Atlanta University Center.

Hit the flip to see why people can’t stop talking about Spelhouse.

The parties.

Every year there’s a flood of parties starting from the Thursday and ending Sunday.

This year parties like #OliveBranchAlumni, a staple at the AUC that brings Spelman, Morehouse and Clark Atlanta together during undergrad, is back with a swanky day party for alumni.

There’s also a huge night party at Atlanta’s Opium nightclub.

Let’s just hope there isn’t another #AquaGate scandal this year. Hopefully, the dolphins have recovered by now. Right T-12?

Ah yes, arguably the highlight of Spelhouse homecoming is the tailgate where alumni dish out dough to enjoy food and (non-alcoholic, of course) beverages in a family-style cookout fashion. There are Greek tents, organization tents, alumni tents, random person who didn’t even go here tents, etc.

Our Radio One family will have an #HBCULove Tailgate Tour truck on site this year; stop by for celebrity appearances, a live DJ, and giveaways.

This year Morehouse plays Benedict College at 2:00 p.m. at B.T. Harvey Stadium.

Precisely 14 freshmen and a ton of old heads rocking Morehouse para down to the socks will surely be in attendance. At least the band and Mahogany – N – Motion will be there to fill the stands.

The people.
