Crime is a Recession’s Best Friend

Crime is expected to go up due to the current recession:

The last time stocks on Wall Street fell hard, in 1987, crime was exploding, and the city saw historic highs in murders in the following years.

Before that, the fiscal crisis of the 1970s helped lead to the abandonment of neighborhoods, failing schools and startling crime rates: robberies built through those years to a high in 1981, when there were 107,495 of them, for an average of 294 a day. (Last year’s total reported robberies, 21,787, was the lowest figure in modern history.)

“Every recession since the late ’50s has been associated with an increase in crime and, in particular, property crime and robbery, which would be most responsive to changes in economic conditions,” said Richard Rosenfeld, a sociologist at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Typically, he said, “there is a year lag between the economic change and crime rates.”

Bush, McCain, Wallstreet, and some other folks have really done us in. SMH

Bush mccain and wallstreet is responsible? How about the people who had BAD credit and low income that Wallstreet MADE these loans for. Then “these people” with the bad credit couldn’t pay their loan and crashed the market when wallstreet was just trying to help them get a loan?!??

  • G

You don’t give out a loan if the person doesn’t have the ability to pay for it.

  • Re

The guy on the right must be a head-butter.

    Afiya …agree 100%

This is just the beginning. Yes, Bush has created this mayhem!! If he would have put his country before his personal beef, and paid attention to the economy as well as the war then we would not have been in this mess!

We need Obama (or as Jay-Z said on the new M.I.A. song..or bring back Regan at least brothers was “getting money” the other way). But the economy is bare and their is basically a drought (on street money) so you know what that means!!! Lock your doors people…because if you know like I know (remember Katrina) brothers aint starving for NOBODY…THEY WILL TAKE YOUR ISH WHEN THEIR THIRSTY!!

  • 6 Figgaz

I’m so scurred…. LOL. F*ck that. Stay strapped and man up…

  • always knew

This is the new norm? Well great, then I hope the brothers will get themselves together, (the ones who don’t)…and you can’t tell me it would be funny as hell, if the ENTIRE jail and prison system suddenly were filled with them, instead..And black men doing the damn thing..that would be great…trading places (except in reverse), lol…..

Oh, Lawd. We don’t want it to go back to how Da Bronx was back in the 1970’s. Many of you might not remember how it was, but I do.

Who remembers FORT APACHE THE BRONX? That movie was filmed in my neighborhood. My girls went to Head Start in Murphy Projects on Crotona Avenue. I STILL remember how Boston Road & 174th looked before they built all them single-family homes in that area. I went to the movies @ Dover and Deluxe theaters.

OMG!! We can’t revert back to the days of old because of Wall Street and their stupidity. Not like how it was in the 70’s, Hall Naw.

    This is sad, but true.

    Let’s ALL bow our heads;

Our Father which art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory forever and ever. Amen

Don’t try and blame poor folks for the banking instituitons greediness.

It was the various banking instituions predatory lending practices that helped to cause this crisis by fabricating the AmeriKKKan Dream(nightmare) of home ownership!!!

Free market w/o regulation leads to greed- you can’t trust folks to do the right things w/o some sort of regulatory oversights as capitalism is a religion that makes satan a god!!!!!

Get ready for the Amero which is related to the coming single global currency, North AmeriKKKan Union and global government(NWO)- the solutions to prevent another economic collapse- just wait and see.

Bush already has military troops stationed for the coming civil unrest due to job/home loss and other economic related destabalizing societal particulars(if McCain wins via voter fraud or the election is cancelled via Martial Law declaration.

We are going back to the Reagan era when folks had to rob to get rich or just survive!!!!

  • Tom

You are all idiots. The democratic party are more responsible for this mess. Clinton et al forcing Banks to lend to uncreditworthy people. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd refusing to allow oversight for freddie mac and fannie mae. yeh blame Bush for everything.
