BET president Stephen Hill admits the Chris Brown Rihanna mix-up was his fault during the awards

What started out as an incredible moment for one music fan on last night’s BET Awards soon turned into an awkward and embarrassing award gaffe involving Chris Brown and Rihanna.

When Tiffany Green took the stage to present the Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award, she first announced that the winner was Brown for “Look At Me Now.” Just a moment later she corrected herself and stated that the real winner was Rihanna for “What’s My Name.” Adding the confusion, Drake then hit the stage to claim the award for himself.

But the flub wasn’t over. As BET later tweeted, Green had it right the first time and Brown was the real winner. Of course, that info came too late for the fan who lost her big chance to shine in the spotlight.

So, who was to blame for the unfortunate confusion? Despite the steady stream of barbs aimed at Green from viewers on Twitter and Facebook, the problem was all BET’s fault.

“That BET Awards Viewer’s Choice mix-up was due to human error,” Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials, explained in a tweet. “And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to ALL affected.”
