We all loved the BET Hip-Hop Awards cyphers the other night, didn’t we? But we do wish we could have seen some legendary groups rip them up.
Let’s look at the great Hip-Hop crews in history and dream about them and their ability to crush their “freestyles” like Shady 2.0 and MMG did.
The Hot Boys – Weezy? Turk? B.G.? Juve? We’re sold. Especially how dope Juve was in his day. We wish they could free Turk and make this happen. Remember how they used to dominate the late 90s? Bring that back.
No Limit Records – Remember the magic of “Make Em Say Ughhhhh”?!?!?!? They could turn their cypher into a recreation of that magic. Wouldn’t that be memorable?
Ruff Ryders – These guys (and lady) were on top with DMX being the most popular rapper in the world. Even Drag-On didn’t suck. BET should probably get their censors ready, though.
Roc-A-Fella – Jay and company’s Hot 97 freestyle from back in the day is considered a classic. They went at it for like three hours and didn’t stop. BET better bring some extra film.
Dungeon Family – Outkast and the Goodie Mob alone would be enough to have us going crazy. It’d be the best southern version of the cypher ever. Bank on it.
Juice Crew – This goes back to the 80s. Masta Ace and Big Daddy Kane would be there to drop knowledge. BET ain’t ready for all of that.
Wu-Tang Clan – The greatest rap posse of all time would give us 10 minutes of raw uncut. Unfortunately, ODB isn’t around to drop his insane raps and entertain. But the other eight would hold it down.
Death Row – Let’s not forget about Death Row. Just Pac and Snoop together would make magic. They already make splashes in awards shows so they would set the world on fire.
Bone, Thugs & Harmony – People are sleeping but they had one of the highest selling rap albums of all time. You’d have to watch it in slow motion to catch what they say, but it’d be worth it.
