What’s interesting about Alicia was that her timing was perfect. Sure there have been female musicians like Sheila E and Patrice Rusion (sp?), and Roberta Flack. However for today’s generation there have not been one. Alicia’s lyrics to me are not necessarily poetic, but since she understands that the general public does not like poetry so she makes simple but yet meaningful lyrics with an ol skool modern twist. India. Arie’s music is poetic just like Jilly and Erykah. People don’t like to think. They like self-explanatory music. Poetry are words put together eloquently with underlying messages. So with that said they continue to be liked by the minority.
