Naomi Campbell had to open a can of whupa$s on ABC News when they asked her if she accepted a “Blood Diamond” from Liberian warlord Charles Taylor. She did not like the question and socked the cameraman. Pop the hood. Continue »
“When you purchase a rough diamond and malachite Green Bracelet created by Simmons Jewelry Co., you are supporting the educational initiatives that develop and empower people in African nations where diamonds are a natural resource. Simmons Jewelry Co. will donate 50% of net profits from the sale of the Green Bracelet to the Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF), a non-profit international organization which is dedicated to supporting educational programs in Africa.”
Off subject, but Kimora sure looks an awful like that Pussycat Doll turned solo artist Nicole Scherzinger in this photograph.
If you missed the “Post-Imus” discussion of Hip-Hop on Oprah, here is some of the footage. It looks like “Blood Diamond Russ” took a break from blonds and blood diamonds to chat it up. Common, Maya Angelou, and some sisters from Spelman make an appearance.
Now that Common showed up, can rappers stop crying about being on Oprah now? That is not her market or demographic, it’s a business, don’t take it personal.
‘”Blood Diamond,” Ed Zwick’s film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly, doesn’t open until Dec. 15, but it’s already getting more free publicity than Warner Bros. could have dreamed of. Set in the late ’90s when rebel militias seized control of Sierra Leone’s diamond mines, selling rough gems to buy weapons they used to slaughter and mutilate many thousands of innocent people, “Blood Diamond” tells a fictional tale of two South Africans, a white mercenary and a black fisherman, who find a rare pink diamond. But even two months before its release the film has spurred talk that it could turn consumers off to buying diamonds for fear their money would be supporting murderers.
De Beers, the international diamond cartel that controls the majority of the world’s diamonds, has gone on the offensive to try to distance the industry from the history depicted in the film. But according to Ken Sunshine, Leonardo DiCaprio’s publicist, those connected with the movie feel the stepped-up public relations efforts have backfired for De Beers.
“I hope they keep on publicizing the controversies and our ‘Blood Diamond’ movie,” Sunshine said…..
SMH at corporates trying to conceal the truth. I wouldn’t expect any rappers to stop blinging anytime though. Looks like a solid flick.
Blood Diamond Naomi has been marred with controversy since she testified against Liberian dictator Charles Taylor in his war crimes trial. To take a break, she has decided to gather up a new crew and head out on a Mediterranean cruise. Rumor has it that she’s taking some notable names with her. Continue »
Bossip.com just got off the phone with BDR and his lawyers and Mr. Simmons is not pleased that Bossip calls him “Blood Diamond Russ. ‘Blood Diamonds” has been in the news lately with Naomi Campbell allegedly lying at the war crimes trial of former Liberian dictator Charles Taylor. Apparently, swirl-em up Russ is feeling some heat.
While on the call, BDR mentioned his life was being threatened because of Bossip and asked us “do you know what happened to Tupac and Biggie?”. BDR says he has a lot of resources and his big white lawyers will be coming after Bossip.com. Although BDR said he loves the term “Blood Diamond Russ” in an previous interview with Bossip, he is now riding hard against us using the term.
Where did the term BDR come from? Russell Simmons was attacked by the director of movie ‘Blood Diamond’ for understating the problems from the diamond industry exploiting Africans for profit. It has been alleged BDR has a close relationship with the diamond industry. We are not backing down from swirl-em up Russ and will continue to use the term “BDR”. If BDR is ever hurt, it won’t be because of Bossip, it will be because of something shady he was involved in with regards to the blood diamond industry. If Bossip was to stop telling the truth and stop being critical of suspect leaders in our community, we wouldn’t be true to what was behind starting Bossip in the first place.
Supermodel/ diva extraordinaire Naomi Campbell is in some hot water for accepting blood diamonds from the corrupt and former leader of Liberia, Chuck Taylor. Campbell has been called to testify at a war crimes trial later this month and her testimony could potentially invalidate Taylor’s claim that he never owned or traded diamonds, which many believe he used to “finance a rebellion in Sierre Leone in the 1990s.” More on the flipside Continue
Bossip is all for “getting along” with everyone, diversity, and all that but your boy BDR is taking this “Global” stuff a little too far. We noticed BDR is taking his “extreme swirl game” from the bedroom to the boardroom. Continue »
Rapper The Game is defending a controversial boast in the lyrics of his new song “Big Dreams.” The Los Angeles-based entertainer brags about having “blood diamonds straight out of Angola” in the song, at a time when many celebrities are urging shoppers not to buy conflict gems.
But The Game insists all of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars wear conflict diamonds, and he isn’t about to pretend rap’s big names are bothered about where their diamonds come from. He says, “I know the negatives of what I said, but the truth is, we’re all wearing blood diamonds, so it ain’t just me. “Do I feel the struggle in Africa? Yeah. Do I think people should be dying over diamonds? No. But it ain’t like I’m the only cat around with a chain on.”
Yeah – The Game sports the bloodied ice, and he doesn’t give a f**k. Not that we agree with this cat (and we really don’t), but why be stupid enough to even admit to that sh*t publicly? Trife.
This is why the smart folks over here at Bossip don’t support Negro causes “just because” we are told to. Here is a picture of Robert Bailey Jr., a member of the Jena 6. According to a video on Youtube, he was braggin’ about thuggin’ on his Myspace and was caught showing off what looks to be Jena 6 Defense Fund stacks. SMH.
This is worse than Blood Diamond Russ’ partner Ben Chavis spending NAACP donations to keep a sex deal quiet or Blood Diamond Russ defending blood diamonds in Africa while being on the payroll of the diamond industry.
The video with more disturbing pics is under the hood, check it out Continue »
Click on the picture to enlarge. Russell Simmons who gets paid by the diamond industry to lie spin the truth about blood diamonds in Africa was spotted with racist Paris Hilton over the weekend. He sure does like to smile. Ludacris helped Paris Hilton who has confirmed HERPES celebrate her birthday party in Vegas last weekend.
Russell Simmons and model Eva Pigford have been spotted together a couple times out in Cali recently. If the old perverted defender of “Blood Diamonds” is hittin Eva, maybe he can stop going around looking so desperate and stalking European models who have boyfriends.
