Nelly Says He And Ashanti Had An Agreement To Keep Their Relationship Private
Veteran St. Louis rapper Nelly has been making a few media rounds to promote his new reality show Nellyville and he recently spilled the beans on 92.1 radio in Richmond, VA about the real reason why he never went public about his relationship with Ashanti, why he’s doing reality TV, rumors about him having multiple babymamas and more.

On what made him decide to do reality TV:
Basically, if you’re in this business right now, you know it’s kind of like the social era. So, being out and being in front of the camera does just as much as being on the radio and definitely in music. I think it’s the way that you do it and as long as you are adding something to the situation, it kind of works out better for you.
I think what we get a chance to add is showing something that’s not out there [which is] a single father in hip hop.
Nelly also spoke on why he’s public with Shantel Jackson but wasn’t with Ashanti, rumors about him having multiple babymamas, Ferguson, Real Husbands of Hollywood and more.
On why he was private about Ashanti relationship but is public with Shantel:
You know what? I think that’s something that everybody just threw on Nelly and that wasn’t the case. Obviously, we had an agreement [to keep things private] it wasn’t just my case to just keep that private like that. But I think, in this situation, it’s kind of hard to show everything that’s been going on [with me] without showing that side of it too. Shantel’s a sweet person and you get a chance to see what’s going on with her as well in terms of our relationship getting a chance to grow.
On why he waited to do a reality show & rumors about him having multiple babymamas:
One of the things that made me wait so long was that making sure that my kids had a chance to be older so they can deal with this situation as much as possible and I think [now] is a good time.
It’s, obviously, my 2 children with their mother and then my niece and nephew, who were my sister’s 2 kids when she passed and I took her 2. And it’s just one child’s mother [laughs]. You know, people hear 2 kids and they automatically think [more than one babymama]. But nah, I have one children’s mother.
