This guy just looks shady:

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s lawyers and supporters are up in arms that someone leaked the confidential police report detailing graphic rape allegations against him. Irony is not their strong suit. Assange’s Swedish lawyer, Bjorn Hurtig, plans to lodge a formal complaint and demand that Swedish cops investigate how such sensitive material was leaked, according to the Australian newspaper.

“I do not know who has given these documents to the media, but the purpose can only be one thing: trying to make Julian look bad,” Hurtig is quoted as saying. On Friday, Britain’s Guardian newspaper – a big WikiLeaks booster and one of the three news organizations to which he gave the 250,000 stolen secret US cables – printed new details of the rape accusations. The paper also revealed that Swedish authorities made the much-questioned decision to seek an international arrest warrant for Assange because he failed to show up for an Oct. 14 meeting with prosecutors.

According to the police report leaked to the Guardian, one of the two accusers – human rights activist “Miss A” – says Assange was her houseguest in Stockholm this summer when he began to make advances as they drank tea. She says he began pulling off her clothes roughly, and snapped her necklace. She said she tried to get dressed because “it was going too quickly and uncomfortably” but Assange ripped her clothes off again. She told police that she didn’t want to go any further “but that it was too late to stop Assange, as she had gone along with it so far.”

She says she let him undress her but when he began having unprotected sex with her, she tried several times to get a condom. Assange, she says, “stopped her by holding her arms and pinning her legs.” Eventually, she says he agreed to put on a condom, but she suspected he had “done something” to it because it ripped. “Not only had it been the world’s worst screw, it had also been violent,” Miss A told a friend the next day.

Assange denies any wrongdoing and has speculated the woman was planted by the CIA. The second woman, “Miss W,” consented to sex with Assange that same weekend, according to the leaked police report, but when she insisted he wear a condom, he “lost interest” and fell asleep. She says she awoke the next morning to find Assange having sex with her without a condom. The Guardian report says the women went to police not to seek prosecution but to make him take an AIDS test.

An associate of Assange’s told police he begged Assange to take the test, but he refused. Assange’s British lawyer has said his client took an AIDS test sometime later and he is not infected. Vaughan Smith, who is hosting Assange at his 18th Century mansion, speculated that Guardian printed the Assange police report to deflect criticism at having published the WikiLeaks cables. John Pilger, a filmmaker who put up some of Assange’s $372,000 bail, wrote in the Independent newspaper, “whether or not the smear is a ‘CIA conspiracy,’ it is clear that Assange’s name has been blackened.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Biden confirmed Sunday that the Justice Department aims to prosecute Assange for publishing the cables. “We’re looking into that right now,” Biden said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” refusing to elaborate. Assange claims a U.S. grand jury has already been empaneled to weigh charges.

Biden said Assange – who is publishing 250,000 secret diplomatic cables stolen by a U.S. soldier – should not be protected by laws that shield journalists from prosecution. “I would argue that it’s closer to being a high tech terrorist,” Biden said, echoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s epithet for Assange. “If (Assange) conspired to get these classified documents with a member of the U.S. military, that’s fundamentally different than if somebody drops on your lap, ‘Here, David, you’re a press person, here is classified material,'” Biden told show host David Gregory.

He said the publication of the private cables has put lives in jeopardy overseas and made foreign leaders wary of dealing with American diplomats. “I meet with most of these world leaders (and) there is a desire now to meet with me alone, rather than have staff in the room. It makes things more cumbersome,” Biden said.
