Obama continues to make history:

Prominent Chicago businesswoman Desiree Rogers will be named the White House social secretary, according to a series of news reports. The 49-year-old Harvard MBA will be the first African-American to hold the post.

Rogers, 49, is a friend of Michelle and President-elect Barack Obama’s, and a leader in Chicago corporate and civic circles; her appointment signals that the first couple consider the job crucial to how they introduce themselves to the country and the globe. She was a major fundraiser for Obama.

According to news reports, Barack Obama will also introduce his economic team later today. He’s doing us proud. Obama done swooped down and grabbed the reigns like a true maverick. Lawd knows we need the change – in every way.

And he still makes time for us regular folk. Dig Obama during a recent visit to Manny’s Coffee Shop & Deli in Chicago.

Lisa Bonet’s boy toy, Jason Mamoa, was cut in the face in L.A.:

Actor Jason Momoa, the father of Lisa Bonet’s youngest daughter and a new baby on the way, was slashed across the face with a broken bottle in a bar room brawl last week. The Los Angeles County D.A. has charged Dominic Bando with assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury. Momoa needed re-constructive surgery and 140 stitches to repair the damage

We hope this baby-faced nicca wasn’t throwing blows in a L.A. bar trying to be hard. Get that face chopped up, and Lisa might be chopping up the next hot thang.

Let this confirm any suspicions you may have about this shady cult:

A man wielding two swords was killed Sunday outside one of the hundreds of Scientology buildings in Hollywood. Police say the man — who had some involvement with the church in the past — showed up at around noon, approached three guards and began waving two samurai swords. The guards took it seriously — one of them killed the man with a semi-automatic handgun.

That seems a little extreme, doesn’t it? The cat was obviously unhinged, waving around samurai swords and what-not. Did they have to blast him? But for real – what kind of church is guarded by dudes packin’ semi-automatics anyway? SMH.

R Kelly’s nephew has been charged in that suspect robbery/shooting that occurred earlier this month:

Bond was set at $200,000 Friday for R & B singer R. Kelly’s teenage nephew who allegedly tried to rob a barber shop but was shot by the owner earlier this month. Cook County Judge Reginald Baker set bond for Brayel Kelly of Calumet City at $200,000, according to Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokesman Andy Conklin.

Kelly was charged as an adult Thursday with attempted armed robbery, attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Continue »

Chris Brown added to his accolades last night at the AMA’s:

Chris Brown was the big winner at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, surprising himself most of all.

“I don’t know what to say. I would have given it to Coldplay,” said Brown, who won artist of the year, male pop/rock artist and male soul/R&B artist.

Breezy sure did get it in this year, and we aren’t just talking about Rihanna. We think he is deserving, but who else do you think should have gotten it if it wasn’t Breezy?

MJ has settled his dispute with a Bahraini prince over millions:

Pop star Michael Jackson has settled a Bahraini prince’s lawsuit accusing him of failing to honor a business deal worth $7 million.

“Sheikh Abdullah and Michael Jackson are pleased to confirm that they have amicably settled their dispute which was in litigation before the High Court in London. They wish each other well in their own, respective endeavors,” the two sides’ legal teams said in a joint statement Monday.

Details of the settlement will remain secret, lawyers for the sheikh said, adding that confidentiality was one of the conditions of the agreement.

The multi-millionaire Bahraini royal had claimed he bailed Jackson out of a financial hole following the singer’s expensive acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005, paying the $2.2 million dollar legal fees and hosting him in his home in Bahrain.

The sheikh accused Jackson of reneging on a contract for a new album and an autobiography — a deal that he says included a $7 million advance.

According to The Associated Press, the 33-year-old said the pair even moved into the same palace in the Gulf state to work on music together. But Jackson dropped the project in 2006, leaving Bahrain and pulling out of the contract.

Jackson’s lawyers maintained the money was a gift and argued that the musician wasn’t bound by the deal because the contract was signed on behalf of 2 Seas Records, a venture which never got off the ground, AP said.

This little transparent nicca is never going to grow up, trying to pull a stunt like this. MJ could have gotten his entire nose pulled off for f*cking around with homeboy’s stacks like that. SMH
