Reality Star Says Gilbert Arenas’ Defamation Lawsuit Is BS
Basketball Wives’ Laura Govan has hit back in court at her ex-lover Gilbert Arenas’ defamation suit, saying the whole thing is a bunch of crap because she’s telling the truth.
Arenas sued Govan earlier this year for apparently leaking emails and texts describing their rocky relationship, including her claims that he’d been unfaithful during their entire time together and allegedly infected her with STDs.
But Govan fired back at the suit, saying Arenas doesn’t have a leg to stand on, because everything that came out was the truth.
“The complaint, and each cause of action therein, is barred, in whole or in part, because and any all of the statements complained are true or substantially true,” Govan wrote in court papers obtained by BOSSIP.
Govan said in court papers that her actions weren’t defamatory, and Arenas’ suit should be tossed because she was expressing her opinions about their time together. Govan also said the suit violates her free speech and her comments were made without any malice.
Arenas reputation hasn’t suffered after Govan’s bombshell revelations, and if it was, the damage was caused by others outside of their relationship, she said in the court papers.
Govan asked that the court to dismiss Arenas’ lawsuit and his claim for punitive damages.
A judge hasn’t yet ruled on the case.
