While it’s been said a million times now, you really can’t talk about 2020 without mentioning the fact that this year was unlike any other.

Because of such unprecedented circumstances, it’s not surprising that a lot of our celebrity relationships were put to the test, and ultimately, didn’t make it. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and look back at the biggest celebrity breakups we’ve witnessed throughout 2020.

Dr. Dre and Nicole Young

The ongoing divorce between Dr. Dre and his wife of more than two decades, Nicole Young, has definitely been the most brutal break up this year.

Young filed for divorce in June, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. After that is when all the drama began, with constant legal battles and back and forth statements through the media. While Nicole claims she was coerced into signing a prenup, Dre’s camp says she signed it willingly, and the couple continued to fight over money, assets, and spousal support.

After spending more than 3 years together, Rihanna and her billionaire boyfriend Hassan Jameel reportedly ended their relationship in January.

The couple was first spotted together on vacation in Spain in 2017, though the Fenty mogul kept much of their relationship private over the years. Following news of their split at the top of the year, PEOPLE published a statement from an insider, who said, “their lives were too different and it was hard to maintain a relationship.”

Just a couple of months later, Rihanna was seen with A$AP Rocky, who she is now reportedly dating.

At the time of their split going public, sources said the producer had already moved on with another woman: Harriet actress Cynthia Erivo. Because of the sketchy timeline, there were rumors that this alleged infidelity led to the demise of their marriage.

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler

In April, Kristin Cavallari filed for divorce from Jay Cutler after 7 years of marriage. Once news of their split became public, the reality star admitted that they had been struggling for years.  “I always thought it was interesting when people would refer to us as ‘couple goals,'” she told PEOPLE. “I was like, ‘If you guys only knew.'”

“With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce,” the Very Cavallari star wrote in an Instagram post announcing their break up. “We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.”

Taraji P. Henson and Kelvin Hayden

In October, Taraji P. Henson revealed that her engagement to Kelvin Hayden “didn’t work out.” She first announced their engagement in 2018, and the couple was set to tie the knot in April of this year, but their ceremony was initially postponed due to the coronavirus.

“I haven’t said it yet but it didn’t work out,” Henson said on the Breakfast Club at the time. “I tried. I said, ‘Let’s do the therapy thing,’ but if you’re both not on the same page with that, then you feel like you’re taking it on yourself and that’s not a fair position for anybody to play in a relationship.”

Much like the rest of the couples on this list, Ray J and Princess Love have had one hell of a year.

If you’ll recall, the couple’s relationship problems culminated last November when they publicized their blowout fight in Las Vegas, when Ray J reportedly left a pregnant Princess and their daughter, Melody, stranded following an argument.

Princess filed for divorce from the mogul in May, but the couple ended up reconciling and giving their relationship another try. Just a few months later, Ray J filed for divorce in September, citing irreconcilable differences.  Ray is asking for joint custody of their kids and wants the judge to uphold their prenup.

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green are another couple in the midst of a messy divorce.

The couple first met on the set of Hope & Faith in 2004, when the actress was just 18 and Green was 30. After dating for about two years, they initially got engaged in November 2006, but they called it off in February 2009. Over a year later, they got engaged again and tied the knot in 2010.

Now, after a decade together, the couple finally called it quits. Brian spoke about the divorce on his podcast, saying Megan came to him and let him know she wanted to end their relationship.

“She said, ‘I realized when I was out of the country working alone that I feel more like myself and I liked myself better during that experience and I think that might be something worth trying for me,'” he recalled what Fox told him during the conversation. “I was shocked and I was upset about it but I can’t be upset at her because she didn’t ask to feel that way. It wasn’t a choice she made, that’s the way she honestly felt. We talked about it a little more and said let’s separate for a bit… and so we did.”

Iggy Azalea and Playboi Carti reportedly began dating in 2018, though most of their relationship has been kept private. In July 2019, Azalea appeared on The X Change Rate wearing a diamond ring, but the rapper denied she was engaged. In June 2020, Iggy finally confirmed to fans that she had given birth to a son.

In October, Azalea posted a cryptic message to her Instagram Stories, letting everyone know their relationship was over.

“You lost a real 1,” she wrote. “People take loyalty for granted & that’s why I’d rather be alone. One thing I’ll never understand is how liars live with themselves. That s–t don’t eat y’all up inside?” She then put things in more simple terms, writing, “What I mean last night was that I’m raising my son alone & I’m not in a relationship.”

Prior to their romance, Tatum was married to his Step Up costar Jenna Dewan. After spending almost a decade together, they ended their marriage in October 2018 before finalizing the divorce in January 2020. Channing began dating Jessie J that same October and first split up in December 2019. They picked things back up in January before breaking up once again three months later.

Tracy Morgan and Megan Wollover

In July, PEOPLE confirmed that Tracy Morgan and his wife of almost five years, Megan Wollover, called it quits.

“Sadly, after nearly five years of marriage, Megan and I are filing for divorce. This is a challenging time for all involved, so I ask that you please respect our privacy,” Morgan told the outlet in a statement through his spokesperson. “This is a private matter for the family,” a rep for Wollover says in a statement. “Megan’s primary focus remains the best interest of the parties’ daughter. She asks that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

Scott Disick and Sofia Richie

After three years of dating, Scott Disick and Sofia Richie called it quits in May.

“Scott and Sofia are on a break until Scott straightens himself out more,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “Scott is in an okay place right now and is trying to get better and focus on work, but he has to prove himself.” Earlier that same month, the reality star reportedly signed into a rehab facility to deal with problems stemming from the death of his parents a few years back but left the facility the same day when photos were posted online.

About a week after reports of their “break,” a source told the publication that the pair had officially broken up.

Susan Kelechi Watson and Jaime Lincoln Smith

Just one year after announcing their engagement, This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson ended her relationship with actor Jaime Lincoln Smith. The star confirmed her relationship status as a single lady on November 7, following the election, posting a cryptic message to her Instagram Stories that read, “And I thought becoming Single was gonna be the only eventful thing to happen to me this year.”

She also deleted the photo of her engagement announcement from 2019.

Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich

Even though Demi Lovato’s last relationship started off strong, it ended in heartbreak after just a few months.

This quarantine love story started in March when Us Weekly broke the news that the singer was dating the Young and the Restless actor. Only a month later, a source told the publication that the pair were already talking about marriage. By July, they were engaged.

A lot of unusual activity–like resurfaced tweets from Max comparing Demi to her former Disney Channel BFF Selena Gomez–is seemingly what led to their ultimate demise. Sources throughout Lovato’s camp expressed concern about the relationship early on, alluding to the fact that Ehrich may have been in the relationship to accelerate his own fame.

Simone Biles and Stacey Ervin Jr.

After three years together, Simone Biles and Stacey Ervin Jr. broke things off earlier this year.

Simone confirmed their break up in July, telling Vogue, “It’s hard being young and having that long of a relationship and then ending it. But it was for the best.” In the same cover story, she also revealed that they broke things off a few months earlier, in March.

Tyler Perry and Gelila Bekele

The most recent break up on this list comes from Tyler Perry, who revealed his split from his longtime girlfriend Gelila Bekele in a unique way.

The 51-year-old revealed on Instagram earlier this month that he is single and having a “midlife crisis.” Later that week, a source confirmed to E! News that Perry and Bekele–with whom he shares a 6-year-old son– amicably split and continue to co-parent their child.

“This is what a midlife crisis looks like,” Perry wrote under a selfie on Instagram. “I’m 51, single and wondering what the next chapter in my life will look like.”

Darius Rucker and Beth Leonard

After twenty years of marriage, Darius Rucker and his wife, Beth Leonard, filed for divorce. The couple met in 1998 while Beth was working in New York for VH1 and Darius was in town playing with his band, Hootie & the Blowfish.

“Beth and I would like to share that after much reflection we have made the decision to consciously uncouple,” Rucker wrote on Instagram to announce the split in July. “We remain close friends and parenting partners and continue to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Our priority will always be our beautiful family. We have so much love in our hearts for each other and will continue to encourage growth and expansion in one other. “
